"After you see her in her show, come and look at my face... it's the same!"
I Am Nothing Like My Mother
Mother/Daughter relationships can be fulfilling, dramatic, loving, emotional, powerful, competitive, and extremely joyful. In her semi-biographical one-woman show, I Am Nothing Like My Mother, actress Christine Corpuz, explores the gray areas in this universal relationship, employing the Filipina Nanay, not only as a character with a funny accent, but as a bridge for other characters in her play to live out seeming contradictions in life.
The one-woman show, I AM NOTHING LIKE MY MOTHER, written and performed by Christine Corpuz, originally debuted at NYU's Graduate Acting Freeplay Festival in 2007. In early 2008, MOTHER was produced by New York City's world-famous Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, making Christine the first Asian-American artist fully produced by The Nuyorican, earning her an Audelco/Vivian Robinson Award nomination in Best Solo Performance of 2008, and a Feature in Filipinas Magazine as a "Filipino You Should Know."
In the Spring of 2009, Christine re-mounted MOTHER with a west coast debut at the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks, CA, followed by a performance at SIPA (Search to Involve Pilipino-Americans) presentation for Filipino Heritage Month in Historic Filipinotown in downtown Los Angeles. Most recently, Christine has been invited to perform at various colleges and universities. For bookings, please contact Christine directly.
